Otterhayes Trust was formed as a not-for-profit company with charitable status in 1984 on the site where
the Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary first began. It was formed by Jim and Carolyn Allen, who were the Trusts main management for 30 years. Both Jim and Carolyn have had many years experience in
working with Learning Disabilities. Jim is qualified in special education and art, and spent many years' teaching in a special school, and Carolyn is a qualified nurse for Learning Disabilities, and
has had three years assessing NVQ 4 in Care Management.
Jim and Carolyn have retired but both play an
active role within the board of Trustees and act as consultants. Their daughters, Lisa and Fiona, are now the main management of the
Trust, who report to a board of trustees.
They have many years experience in this field, are both qualified in Care Management and have attained a
Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People Services.
To complete the team the Trust employs a further 18 staff with a variety of skills and qualifications. The Trust prides itself in
providing ongoing training and qualifications covering a variety of essential topics for the benefit of all residents.
